Karen Downing’s tableware balances aesthetic beauty and functionality together with the strength, durability and depth of glazed porcelain. Dishwasher safe, minimalist and timeless, her work is hand thrown, allowing for subtle but infinite variations that make each piece unique.
Since completing apprenticeships with Tom White and Jill Hickley in the USA, Downing lived near Orford in Suffolk for 10 years before moving to The Brecklands in Norfolk. She has exhibited in Europe, America, Japan and in numerous galleries across the UK, including Sotheby’s, The V&A and The Royal College of Art. Her work is enormously popular and her commissions include The Tate, The V&A and The Crafts Council.
